Certificates of Compliance
An electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) confirms that an installation meets the national wiring standard, SANS 10142-1. Only a registered person may issue one.
Des doesn't issue CoCs himself. When your job needs a certificate, our registered partner inspects and tests the installation and issues the CoC, and Des does the upgrade work needed to get there.

Every job is done to the SANS 10142-1 wiring standard, so the work passes inspection first time. Des quotes before starting, explains what needs doing and why, and leaves the DB board labelled and the site tidy. What is an electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC)?
An electrical CoC is a legal document confirming that a property's electrical installation meets South Africa's wiring standard, SANS 10142-1, as required by the Electrical Installation Regulations. Only a registered person may issue one, after inspecting and testing the installation.
Do I need a CoC to sell my house?
Yes. When a property is transferred the seller must provide an electrical CoC that is not older than two years, and no changes may have been made to the installation since it was issued. Conveyancers will not register the transfer without it, so book the inspection early.
Does Des issue the CoC himself?
No. Des does the repairs and upgrades needed to pass, and a registered partner inspects, tests and issues the certificate. You deal with one contact and get both the work and the CoC.
What usually fails a CoC inspection?
Missing or faulty earth leakage protection, poor earthing and bonding of pipes and geysers, old fuse boards, unsafe or exposed wiring, loose connections and DIY alterations. Most of these are fixed in a day.
What does a DB board upgrade involve?
The old fuse board is replaced with a modern distribution board fitted with circuit breakers, a main switch and earth leakage protection. Circuits are labelled and the earthing is checked. It makes the installation safer and is often needed to pass a CoC.
Do you do steel work such as gates and burglar bars?
Yes, through Serendipity, our sister business. Serendipity makes and fits gates, cages, railings, burglar bars and wrought iron across the West Rand. Send the details to Des and he will arrange the quote.
Can Des install solar and battery backup?
Yes. Des installs solar panels, inverters and battery backup and connects them to your property's electrical system. Grid-tied systems must be registered with your municipality; Des can advise on what your supplier requires.
